Homemade Granola for Breakfast

What’s for Breakfast?

I’m not a fan of cooking breakfast. The last thing I want to do first thing in the morning is cook something. I’m a chocolate milk and banana kind of a girl. But my boys want a full course meal for breakfast.

We have to compromise so that I can keep my sanity. Part of that compromise is that the 17 year old man-child cooks breakfast 80% of the time. He just has to be reasonable and use what I have on hand. The other part of that compromise is dealing with mom’s smoothies for breakfast mornings.

But once a week someone in the house makes homemade granola for breakfast. Even the 7 year old can make granola! It’s a simple, high protein, high sugar breakfast. Ha ha ha! I’ve been making this recipe, an adaptation of a recipe I found in a forgotten cookbook, for over 15 years! 

I’m going to give you my basic recipe, but it’s so adaptable! You can change it up and add what suits your tastes! Make it your own!

Simple homemade granola recipe for breakfast!

Granola

Mix these in a large baking dish and bake in the oven at 350 for about 30 minutes, stirring once. This part is done when the coconut starts to take on a nice brown color.

While that is baking, melt the following together in a saucepan together:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup molasses (I use Wholesome brand, it tastes amazing and is full of nutrients)

Turn off heat and add:

Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until all the oats are covered with the butter mixture.

Serve with homemade yogurt, fruit, chocolate chips and/or milk. It’s best hot out of the oven!
